Start to Learn How to Draw Better

When you learn to draw, soon you realize: the big part of this art is just craftsmanship and technique. When you’re expert in the basic methods, your creativity can rely on this foundations. This leaves you more freedom for developing your drawing skills and imagination rather than focusing on applying the basic methods decently.

Therefore it’s a good thought to practice these basic drawing methods regularly. Particularly when you’re starting to learn to draw, much practice of these basic methods will quicken your drawing success.

Learn Drawing Hatchings and Crosshatchings

Hatching means to draw many parallel lines approximately. Other than in conventional shadings the lines are not allowed to adjoin eachother! Though there is still white space between the lines they form an area seemingly shaded strongly.

Cross-hatching takes it one step farther. When you are exercising cross-hatching you cover one group of hatchings with another group rectangular to the first one. This way cross hatchings get much denser and solider than (single) hatchings.

Drawing hatchings calls for preciseness. So exercising hatchings is as well a great opportunity to exercise your draftsmanship preciseness. When starting commence to fill up blank pieces of paper with hatchings and cross-hatchings without a special subject in your eye.

When you have acquired some proficiency, you ought to seek first simple studies. Pick out such sceneries that contain plenty of shadow. Try to depict this scene not using outlines. Rather trust completely on interpreting the shadows and dark areas into hatchings. Let the hatchings’ direction follow the subjects you are drawing. For drawing blacker areas and shadows place the lines of your hatching closer together or use cross hatching.

You should be learning to Draw Shadings

Drawing shadings is more common than hatching. It’s more instinctual and needs lower experience. When drawing shadings you just fill up areas of your drawing with your pencil. By changing the softness of your pencil, the force you employ and the count of layers of shadings you produce you control the tones you produce.

Similar as when creating hatchings you draw shadings by drawing lots of lines. For now you draw them so close to each other they intersection and merge completely. Shadings created out of lines still have a direction (though not as strong as in hatchings). So pay attention to align your shadings’ direction with the shapes of the subjects you’re drawing. To get the shading more dense you have to employ the same techniques as when doing cross hatching.

Another way for drawing shadings requires to draw countless really little scribbles or circles close together so they merge and blend. Blendings created this way are extremely even and miss a visible alignment. The advantage: you won’t have to keep an eye on the shading’s visible alignment.

Ideally you begin exercising shadings right now. Choose some pieces of paper, outline some simple forms like rectangles and begin to fill them up with shadings. Try to get them as smooth as possible and apply the various methods explicated before.

Again when you’ve achieved enough levels of expertise, seek to start using the techniques learned on real-world subjects.

Use Different viewpoints and types of perspective

Besides doing hatchings and shadings the most important technique you need to acquire while beginning to learn drawing, is a sound understanding of perspective.

There are some rules that may help you in constructing perspectively sound drawings. But first it’s essential you practice your eye to acknowledge common forms and structures.

Pick out simple sceneries mostly containing of unbent lines and only few arcs. And then depict these scenes by drawing exclusively the outline. This way you are able to focus on understanding proportions and perspective. But don’t stay here, reiterate this exercise by drawing the same scenery over and over again from various viewpoints.

You’ll discover with every repetition you’ll apprehend the scene more skilful and your skills to capture and depict the dimensions of any subject will increase outstandingly.

And What Next?

These three exercises are the most important when studying to draw. There are further common methods and formulas you could and should train. You can improve your drawing skills on your own – just get and draw life sceneries. Start with simple ones and step-up the degree of difficultness as you advance.

Additionally you can learn drawing employing practices designed and tested to ensure ideal progress for your drawing skills.
